KOMET USA’s Q-Finishers help dentists finish composites in two steps,
rather than three. Its popularity made Dental Product Reports, Top 100 Products in 2007.
Restoration replacement in two steps with
Q-Finishers finishing instruments
Instead of using fine, extra-fine, and ultra-fine finishing instruments for a traditional three-step process, Q-Finishers make it possible to finish composites in two steps, with the ultra-fine finishing instrument completing the process. Using these finishing instruments results in greater patient comfort and enhanced patient care while also allowing clinicians to achieve better surface quality than in the traditional three-step process. The finishing instruments’ tapered forms feature a smooth, non-cutting tip for gentle finishing without damaging gingiva.
The following clinical case illustrates how Q-Finishers helped restore a composite restoration that was beginning to break down. In this situation, a high school senior had suffered a trauma during her adolescent years that led to a fracture in her maxillary left central incisor. The fracture was conservatively replaced with a composite, and that composite was beginning to break down and no longer matched the adjacent tooth. Because of her age and the restoration’s location, esthetics was important to the patient. Both she and her parents considered different treatment options, including replacing the composite or using a porcelain bonded restoration.
The patient and her parents decided to go with the most conservative option—using a silicone matrix as a lingual and incisal guide, allowing the clinician to efficiently build the restoration’s proper shape while maintaining full control of placement and color depth. Similar techniques were published by Drs. Newton Fahl, MS,1-2 and Marcos Vargas, MS .3 The Q-Finishers made it possible to complete the contouring and the finishing steps simultaneously.
